Meet Local Locals , Anna Garcia

Hailing from the golden disposition of the Midwest to the golden shores of California, welcome Anna Garcia with her graciously given Local Locals Q & A. Anna has been twirling around the acting circuit, trading lines on screen with some heavy hitters. She also puts pen to paper, scripting creative storylines and characters. Her salt of the earth sweetness is her magic, we were immediate friends. As you may do, spark one, get cozy, read on about this gem of a human.
What comes to mind when you hear the word Malibu?
Well besides the gorgeous beaches and PCH, I am a diehard Malibu Chili Cook-off attendee. I go every year with my friend Bri and we shop around and try the chili and ride the rides and then feel really sick the rest of the day. It’s HEAVEN.
What was your first concert? We want to know the artists, the year, tour and venue.
There are two ways to answer this question! My parents are concert people, so they took me and my sis to tons of shows. So that being said, my first concert ever was The Beach Boys at the DTE Energy Theatre in Michigan in 1997. I don’t remember it at all, but I have been told that I enjoyed it as a baby and that John Stamos sang with them.
The second way to answer this question is my first concert I went to without my parents, which was the Jonas Brothers, also at DTE as a teen. I remember crying and screaming so much when they sang “Burnin’ Up” that I lost my voice. What is it with me and seeing groups of men perform?
Luckily taste in music has VASTLY expanded since then, and I see probably at least a concert a month. Hit me up for a playlist whenever!
Which Malibu Sandals style are you wearing right now?
Listen, the shoes are a dream, but you cannot SEPARATE me from my beach tote. It’s blue and black and has this amazing weave to it, and I swear it gets complimented more than anything I’ve ever owned. And it’s big as hell, so I truly just throw all my stuff in it and I’m set for the day! I just used it two weeks ago when taking my friend in town to eat sandwiches together on Zuma beach and it was heaven.
I hear you were born in Beverly Hills, how was that growing up?
Beverly Hills, Michigan, baby! It’s a suburb of Metro-Detroit, technically a “village.” I loved it. Perfect place to grow up. Sort of the ideal mix of the suburbs, where all the neighbors know and wave at each other on their walks and all the kids ride bikes everywhere, but also, it’s close enough to Detroit that you have access to a larger city, with concert venues and restaurants and shows. And it’s surrounded by a bunch of amazing little cities like Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Birmingham, with lots of little shops and community theaters which are all so charming and great for killing time as a kid.
When you were 5, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an actor. It’s crazy how I just had this little parasite in my brain since I was born. I suppose I did have a brief stint at 6 where I wanted to be a ballerina, but I quit after like 3 months of classes.
If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life what would it be? We are talking head to toe. The full kit.
Full kit? White. Is that insane? I have been wearing all white lately and I think I look very cool though there is of course a good chance I look like a ghost.
Who is your all-time favorite Detroit Tiger’s player and why?
Miguel Cabrera. No question. I’ve been watching him play since I was in middle school, and would go to games with my family, and he JUST retired a year ago. It’s honestly been awesome having a player to watch and grow up with for that long. One of the greatest hitters of all time!
Where would we find you on a Friday night?
Friday night! There are so many options. If I’m not performing in a show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, I’m probably seeing a movie in theaters with friends, begging a host for a table at some hot new italian restaurant, or playing my nintendo switch.
What is the best set you’ve ever worked on?
I think it has to be the set of “Fly me to the Moon.” I have never been a part of a project on that large of a scale and with such a dream cast. The film takes place in the 60s, so the costumes and hair and sets were so gorgeous and detailed and immersive. I mean, we built a full set of the moon landing. It was magical and I miss it a lot. That being said, the VERY CLOSE RUNNER UP is Die Hart 3 but it’s with OTHER local legend Tony Cavalero, who is one of the all time greatest people to ever do it. It just came out December 12th, and we laughed SO much while shooting, which is always a sign of a good set.
Are you able to share your latest writing project, if so what is it?
I have two projects in the works right now, a feature and a pilot! The feature is about an assistant to a supervillain and the pilot is about two girls that work at the Renaissance Faire. I’m writing it with my best friend Jetta, and it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever worked on. No one steal these ideas, okay Hollywood????
